Pam helped establish this Panama Canal group after clients expressed interest in experiencing a full transit through the original locks.

“My clients were interested in experiencing a full Panama Canal transit on a smaller ship that can travel through the original locks,” Pam explains. “This itinerary was a great fit.”

Pam hopes to join the sailing, although her attendance isn’t yet confirmed.

Guests may book with any Pure Magic Vacations travel advisor. Each advisor will continue to provide direct support to their own clients, while Pam shares group information and planning guidance across the agency.

What Happens During a Full Panama Canal Transit?

A full transit carries the ship completely through the Panama Canal, travelling from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea.

On October 24, 2027, Island Princess will pass through the historic locks and travel across Gatun Lake. Guests can watch the ship being raised and lowered while learning about the canal’s construction, history and engineering.

“A full transit sailing is something many travellers have on their bucket list,” Pam says. “You get to experience the entire journey through the Panama Canal while learning about its incredible history and engineering.”

This differs from a partial transit, during which a ship enters the canal but doesn’t complete the full ocean-to-ocean journey.

Why Island Princess Can Use the Historic Locks

Island Princess is smaller than many of today’s largest cruise ships and can travel through the Panama Canal’s original locks.

The ship’s outdoor decks and viewing areas provide opportunities to watch the passing landscape and canal operations. Its dining, entertainment and relaxation spaces also give guests plenty of ways to enjoy the itinerary’s sea days.

Pam spends considerable time researching the cruise lines, ships and destinations she recommends.

“I want to help my clients choose the vacation that's the best fit for them,” she says. “I’m excited to experience this itinerary myself.”

Who is This Panama Canal Cruise Best For?

Pam recommends this sailing for adults who enjoy exploring new destinations, experiencing different cultures and taking time to appreciate the journey.

It may be particularly well suited to:

  • Couples and friends travelling together

  • Experienced cruisers looking for a distinctive itinerary

  • Adults planning a bucket-list vacation

  • Travellers interested in history, engineering and culture

  • Guests who enjoy scenic cruising and relaxing sea days

Because the voyage lasts 16 days and takes place during the school year, it’s likely not as practical for families with school-aged children. However, adult family members and multigenerational groups will enjoy sharing the journey.

“It’s ideal for travellers who like a relaxed journey, beautiful scenery, interesting ports and plenty of time to enjoy the experience,” Pam says.
